Snowdrops by the River - Carolyn J Roberts
A favourite photograph. I remember the sky was pink-tinged, the grass, frost-covered; there was mist rolling along the surface of the water. And amidst all this, a clump of snowdrops braving the freezing temperatures, their white blooms hanging like pearls, a gift to the coming light.
“Spring seems far off, impossible, but it is coming. Already there is dusk instead of darkness at five in the afternoon; already hope is stirring at the edges of the day.”
KATHLEEN NORRIS
At the ‘edges of the day’, the Wolf Moon and the blushing sunrise, accompanied by pink-edged clouds. There’s barely a soul around as I take my early morning walk; the village quiet, the odd glimmer of light shining from windows.

There’s such a stillness, broken only by birdsong. The day holds such promise. Daily rituals; walking, solitude, home to a steaming cup of coffee. Connecting to my inner self.
“An artist must be immersed in life without being submerged in it. An artist must have enough solitude and enough connection. It takes practice, and the conscious building of daily ritual.”
Julia Cameron
And everywhere, simple things to delight and inspire…
Sunshine, shadows, burgeoning bulbs - hyacinths. The anticipation of their beautiful perfume.
Sunshine has been a rare commodity this week, so I’ve been endeavouring to create my own in the studio…
If I’m being completely honest, these started life as a way to use up the paint in my palette. Yellow is not one of my favourite colours but splodging around, creating ‘daffodils’ became addictive….and I rather fell in love with them!
Talking about ‘love’, Valentine’s Day will soon be with us, and in order to celebrate, I’m planning on holding a Flash Sale over on my Instagram feed.

If you want to hear a little more about the sale, click here to watch a YouTube video all about it…

Love the direction the daffodils are taking! 🌼🙌🏻 Love the paint palette too! 😊
A day’s promise… I’m latching onto that thought while the wind still scours this place. Despite it, yesterday’s sun did feel spring like. Burgeoning bulbs made me smile too. Thank you.
