Love how you’ve started the tulips. They look like they’re emerging from a block.

I recently bought a few MH watercolours, they’re stunning. Their quinacradine gold is stunning. I also love their sunset orange and lake green but I think you’d find them too colourful. I believe you’re more into muted colours?

Thank you! Yes, aren't the MH watercolours fabulous - expensive, but the colours are wonderful (as with most things in life, you get what you pay for!) You're quite correct in that I do prefer more muted colours, but every so often feel like adding a pop of colour so will have to check out the Sunset Orange & Quin Gold!! Carolyn

They are stunning. I love how they stay so wet in the palette too. Jackson’s did a promotion on them before Christmas so I stuck several of their colours on my Christmas list.

I ordered some Rosa tubes that will arrive today. They’re from Ukraine and the price is unbelievable. £3.40 for 10ml, artist grade too. Heard great things about them so let’s see ☺️

Loved watching you work on your concertina book. And I think your floral experimentations are also looking brilliant, even if you feel it's all moving very slowly.

Thanks so much for the mention of my Youtube ink videos, Carolyn— much appreciated!

Thanks as always Carolyn for sharing your reflections and doubts. Love your coloured florals, and your muted palette, too! Totally understand the lethargy, same here sometimes too. Enjoy the break! xx

I was wondering… does « muted » for muted palette or colours have a negative connotation? I wanted to find the best way to say it in French and all possible adjectives seem rather negative like « couleurs éteintes » or « sourdes » or « ternes »…

Hi...could you use 'quiet' or 'soft'? - they are synonyms for muted.... x

Well… not sure.. For me, muted colours are not necessarily soft. Indigo for instance can be quite strong. I chose “couleurs éteintes” (literally: switched off) bit I think “couleurs grisées” (grey colours) could be a solution x

I am catching up on your newsletters. My husband passed away last week. I am mourning his loss but also feeling at ease that he is at rest.

Oh Ellen, I'm so sorry for your loss. Such a difficult time for you, but I'm glad that you can take some comfort that he's now at rest. Look after yourself...take care, and I hope that my newsletters can transport to another place, if only for a short while. Sending hugs, Carolyn
