Thank you Hazel. Yes, so often we're holding out for the 'big' things, when, sometimes, it's the little things that matter most.... Merry Christmas, Carolyn
Thank you for introducing me to the beautiful poetry of Gillian Clarke and for memories of Pembrokeshire. We spent Christmas there last year and, like you, were blessed with some wonderfully sunny days before the true winter storms took hold. I will continue to seek out and treasure the little things in life.
“I shall continue to notice the small things, to keep taking small steps; small things that enrich my life…” It took me a while to realise that at times like this, creativity still matters, and to not feel I should set it aside. And sometimes, yes, what we share may help another navigate their day. I loved the story about the starfish.
Thank you Michela - yes, you do question whether art matters when there is so much happening, but if we set aside everything that isn’t immediately necessary, what are we left with…? The starfish story is great isn’t it! Cx
I think our lives are so enriched from noticing and taking joy in the small things. The energy that ripples out from these seemingly small actions touches us all so I think you're on to something here. Loved the little video of your process. Hearing the sounds of creativity was very soothing. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Ellen - glad you enjoyed it. I definitely think that by taking the time to notice the small things, your life becomes richer. It gives us a chance to slow down and appreciate all that we have... And yes, I love hearing the swishing and swooshing of the water, the scraping of the palette knife...as you say, the sounds of creativity! Carolyn
Thx Liza! This is Seawhite of Brighton 220gsm cartridge paper - I like the smooth surface. I also have some of their 300gsm paper as well. I prefer a smooth surface, so a hot pressed watercolour paper such as Fabriano, or if I am feeling rich, the Arches.... Hope that helps, Carolyn
Thanks for sharing. I thought it looked smooth- which I too prefer- just spent a frustrating week with a sketchbook which wasn’t as smooth as I wanted! So know exactly what you mean. Liza
Oh isn't that frustrating!! I once ordered a lovely concertina book - but pressed the button on the rough surface rather than the smooth - it's still sitting on the shelf! Cx
I really like your writing and noticing small, ordinary things is something I've always done. Your paintings are lovely too.

You're very welcome Sue... Yes, we must treasure the small things, the often overlooked - they can give so much pleasure! Cx

Thanks for sharing your process. Fabulous. May I ask what paper you use for your ink and watercolour work.

Haha. These things happen. You might surprise yourself one day when you try it!
